There is some controversy around this name because we don't know where the name comes from. Some think it may have been from the Eastern European immigrants who came here in the 1800s BUT do you really think jews would sell a pork sausage?
Another interesting theory is that it was introduced to us during the Boer war from the Russian volunteers.

However this theory is flawed because only around 200 Russians fought with the boers and most of them were also again, Jewish.

I have been to Europe, and my relatives have been to the USA. All of our meat tastes better here and everyone who has ever left this country says so. You have not had a steak until you have had a steak in South Africa. I recall a story where some Taiwanese businessmen visited this country and they went out for dinner at a steakhouse. On of them was crying by the end of the night cause the food was so good.

There is a little joke in this country that these cigarettes taste like 'Russian' sausages. So technically you can have cigarettes for breakfast if you like to eat sausages in the morning. They are so disgusting that I would not let my worst enemy take one from me if he saw I had a pack and asked for them.
