My opinion, as a person who lived in the US for several years, is that the Russian banking system is more developed for the consumer. It is more convenient, profitable and simple. You can pay for a meal at a restaurant or tip at a cafe by simply showing your phone with a QR on the screen through the app. I haven't seen this in the US. Or even pay in a store and you don't need a card at all, in Russia you don't have to tie your phone to your hand to avoid it being stolen on the street, so it's safe.
Question since you've been State side, any banks in Russia you know of that can take incoming SWIFT transfers? I ask since I aim to study at HSE for a couple of years but finding a means to flip dollars to rubles has been aids.

Agreed. I'm a yank that moved to Moscow in 2021. America is like the fucking stone age. I still remember having to buy a snickers with a $1 bill like a fucking peasant because the local grocery store couldn't accept card bc the fees they pay the processor are too high.
In russia you can just pay someone using your bank app on your phone with their phone number. Unless you're sending millions the govt doesn't give a fuck
